The spotless mind shivers in the cold of He who holds his heart. The grey face turns and burns in the sight of those who love-d him. Little conceptions of a man who once was – a father, a brother, a lover, a seeker of souls float in the sea of those who have left us. The Birds stumble on glimmers of a fading sky. Shadows of fear fall upon those who saw the pain first-hand, felt the pain of others, hear the scream of terrible lies that cannot be true.
Today we remember a light that once shine and offered hope, life and laughter. Those red socks and loafers rebirthed the same taste of life in the children that he left behind. Chic afro shapes on the heads of sons are the remnants of a soul that once was.
Today we linger at the life that once was an abundance of grace. The children are not only those who call him dad since memory became a thing but also those who found a daddy through his overwhelming compassion. Embers. What endures? Those that rise above the ground, untethered by the earthly entanglements or ephemeral pursuits. His thirst to live not for himself. The-other-first before self. The timeless elegance through which life is done.
